CCHS Annual Meeting & Program On April 15
The Chautauqua County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, April 15, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Lakeshore Assembly of God Church, 252 E. Main St., Westfield. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
Following election of new CCHS board members and a short presentation of reports, CCHS president Cristie Herbst will outline the historic circumstances that made Barcelona a bustling commercial port on the Great Lakes until the unthinkable happened.
Herbst’s mother’s family, the Jackways, were Great Lakes commercial fishermen operating out of Barcelona for four generations.
The 200th anniversary of the opening of the lighthouse will be celebrated in 2029. Marla Connelly, park manager of the state parks in Chautauqua County, will give an overview of the master plan for the Barcelona Lighthouse, the keeper’s cottage, and adjoining property before Herbst’s presentation.
